Four persons yesterday died in a fatal accident on the Tema-Dawhenya road.
The accident is said to have involved six vehicles.
According to the Prampram District Police Commander, DSP Paul Mensah Bampoe, an Intercity STC bus from Aflao, collided with an articulated truck.
Four other vehicles from both directions on the highway subsequently rammed into the two vehicles.
According to him, two of the victims died instantly while the other two passed away at the Tema General Hospital.
Several other passengers suffered various degrees of injuries and are receiving treatment at the same hospital.
“We have not been able to identify any of the victims. The road has been cleared, we have moved all the vehicles to the police station and there is free flow of traffic now,” DSP Bampoe told Citi News.
Meanwhile management of Intercity STC in a statement has sent message of condolence to the bereaved families.
The statement said the accident was caused by “pure negligence on the part of the articulated truck driver who suddenly veered off his lane in an attempt to overtake another ahead of him without any signal.”
The statement signed by the company’s head of Public Affairs, Nana Ama Asafo-Boakye assured the travelling public of intercity STC’s commitment to safety, saying “we are still committed to saving lives on the roads.”
