Three miners died after inhaling poisonous gas in the Shanxii mining Ghana Limited underground mine.
Seventeen underground cleaners were performing their normal duties when accidentally smoke emanated from one side of the tunnels gassing them up.
[contextly_sidebar id=”HpfysdAKhCiewBOZlURR3EfNgdnII2UA”]Management of Shanxii which is providing technical support to two registered mining groups quickly rescued them to the surface, gave them first aid and transferred them to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital where three later died.
One of the victims is currently in critical condition whilst the rest have since been treated and discharged.
Management and the inspectorate division of the minerals commission is yet to conduct a full scale investigation to establish the cause of the fatality.
The Public Relations Officer of Shanxii, Maxwell Woomah, who confirmed this said his outfit sympathizes with the bereaved families and is looking at compensation packages for them after they are done with their investigations.
