Lawyers for Alfred Woyome have assured the Supreme Court that their client will pay back the ¢51 million judgment to the state by the end of 2015.
[contextly_sidebar id=”T4yl08gA7y5Rbwi6gbsXpvYdjW1lCjjf”]The Supreme Court in 2014 ordered Mr Woyome to refund the money but the Attorney General’s Department had not managed to retrieve the money yet.
Mr Woyome was paid the sum as judgment debt for allegedly rendering services to the state during preparations towards hosting the African Cup of Nations in Ghana in 2008.
The assurance from Woyome’s lawyers follows a case brought before the court by the AG to seek direction on how to proceed with the collection of the money.
An Accra Fast Track High court in a civil case on March 12 acquitted and discharged Woyome on counts of causing financial loss to the state and defrauding by false pretense following the payment of the GHC 51 million to him as judgment debt.
The AG, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong had vowed to pursue the case at the Supreme Court to ensure Mr Woyome pays back all the money.
