The Ga Adangbe Concerned Citizens wants government to rename the Greater Accra Region, the Ga Adangbe Region.
The group is also demanding that the new Ga Dangbe Region must include Ga Dangbe’s in the Eastern and Central Regions.
[contextly_sidebar id=”O0AJgs4qhwoNahPy0fxarI4XJOQ7SNgt”]President of the group, Nii Samua Oklopong explained that Accra was carved out of the Eastern Region by Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah; a decision he said has rendered Ga Dangbe’s in the Eastern Region handicapped.
He told Citi News, the Krobo people who are Dangbe’s and are resident in the Eastern Region are playing second fiddle to the Akans.
“The Eastern Region is dominated by the Akans at the expense of the Dangbe’s…you will see them as second fiddle to the Akans in that region,” he claimed.
Oklopong also mentioned that there are some Dangbe’s who live in Awutu in the Central Region and have on three occasions produced Ga Manste “but they are not part of the Ga’s, they are not part of the Dangbe’s.”
“Their culture and celebrations are all like the Ga’s but they are in the Central region,” he lamented.
The group is thus admonishing the Local Government Ministry and the government to take immediate steps to bring all Ga Dangbe’s into one region.
In a related development, the Osu Traditional Council is appealing to the government to create a new municipality in the area.
They are certain that the creation of a new municipality will speed up development there to the benefit of their people.
