The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is planning an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to review key decisions related to the party’s Parliamentary primaries on May 24, sources close to the party have told citifmonline.com.
[contextly_sidebar id=”B3vxgy5jFMbF3BjOtVgii8ChYftFRZIj”]The meeting which has been scheduled for next week will review the controversial decision that said only females will be allowed to contest incumbent female Members of Parliament (MPs).
The decision has provoked anger among party supporters, triggering several protests within and outside the party.
Citifmonline.com has also gathered that the NEC is likely to review the GHC30,000 [GHC20,000 development fees included] being charged a filing fees for new aspirants.
The National Executive Committee will also review the decision to encourage only Ga indigenes to contest in constituencies in the Greater Accra Regional.
Sources at the office of the party’s flagbearer told citifmonline.com the Women Caucus in Parliament have met Nana Akuffo-Addo over the matter.
The Women Caucus who are the core beneficiaries of the decision are reportedly pushing for the decision to be implemented.
Nana Akuffo-Addo has already publicly declared support for the controversial decision by the NEC.
