Former Minister of Interior and Defense in the Kufuor administration, Albert Kan Dapaah is of the conviction that government’s excessive spending over the years contributed to the need for the bailout from the International Monetary Fund.
[contextly_sidebar id=”tRcPpYJdwMbkNVGX5of8ZLunSxTvhyZv”]He said the current economic situation may worsen if government does not spend within its budget.
Speaking to Citi News Albert Kan Dapaah charged Ghanaians to demand accountability from government in order to check the expenditure from government.
“We are into the problems that we are in now which has taken us to the IMF for the bailout because we are told government spends more than we are supposed to spend,” he stated.
He therefore called on Ghanaians to demand more accountability from government “if we do not hold them to account it will be repeated and it will create an even bigger problem for us”.
“I cannot guarantee that government won’t do that again. The only guarantee I can give is that if you and me demand accountability from the government, if we monitor the expenditure that they make, if we continue to hold them to do the right thing, they will not overspend and we will have a sound economy,” he said.
