The six suspected armed robbers who were arrested by the police in the Brong Ahafo region on Wednesday have been remanded in police custody after appearing in court on Friday.
The six, including a serving military officer, had reportedly been on the wanted list of the police for a couple of months for various robbery-related incidents in the region.
[contextly_sidebar id=”dt6xUNsoTrA2DT0mMyeUhhAZdX6S7sZt”]They were arrested at Yawhima, near Sunyani after police were tipped off about their presence in the area.
Graphic Online reported that the robbers had, earlier in the night, stormed BACCSOD Microfinance Company at Wenchi and tied up the security man, entered the banking hall and took away an unspecified amount of money.
A search on the suspects was said to have revealed four mobile phones, two knives, two pistols, two crowbars, one screw driver, one strong decoder, one military uniform, a cutlass as well as several unused cartridges of bullets.
The six were then arraigned before a court in the region where they were remanded into prison custody on Friday.
The Public Relations Officer of the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command, ASP Christopher Tawiah confirmed the news also revealed that the case had been adjourned to March 13.
ASP Tawiah told Citi News in an interview: “After their [robbers] arrest, we gathered facts and they have been taken to court and the court remanded them into prison custody to reappear on the 13th of March 2015.”
