The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has criticized state prosecutors for withdrawing all charges against the six persons alleged to have aided Nayele Ametepeh to smuggle 12.5kg of cocaine to the United Kingdom freed.
[contextly_sidebar id=”Pg7fa2f3nij7t0LIe33yUhNSPB9jb4MI”]According to the NPP, this is an indication that government is complicit in the Nayele cocaine saga.
An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday acquitted and discharged all six persons accused of aiding Nayele Ametefe.
The six persons were arrested in Ghana after news broke that Nayele transported the cocaine through the airport`s VVIP.
In interview with Citi News the Communications Director of the NPP, Nana Akomea described the government’s handling of the issue as a mere show trial.
“It is clear that this is just a show trial, to show that government is doing something where in actual fact it hasn’t been doing much,” he insisted.
According to Nana Akomea, “the question still remains; how did she access the VVIP with cocaine and all the other incidents. Nobody is been arrested, those questions remain hanging and once it remains hanging it will deepen the suspicion of government complicity.”
He further observed that Ghana was just been lucky that the British Authorities were able to apprehend Nayele at the Heathrow Airport adding that “it’s a major embarrassment to this country… So it’s not even about what happened to Nayele, it’s about what did not happen to Nayele in Ghana, that is the big question.”
