Cavaliers forward LeBron James has broken yet another NBA record.
With a second quarter assist against the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday, James passed NBA legend Scottie Pippen for the most career assists by a forward with 6,136.
Pippen, who played 17 NBA seasons, took 1,178 regular-season games to hit his mark while James, who averages 6.9 assists per game, managed to pass him in his 890th contest.
The feat makes James arguably the greatest passing forward in history at only 30 years old — and he’ll probably continue to storm the record books for years to come.
Just last week, James passed one of his childhood heroes, Allen Iverson, for No. 22 on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. “It’s very, very humbling, and it’s an honor to just be named with some of the greats that I watched growing up,” James told reporters on Sunday.
“And now to know that I passed Allen Iverson on the all-time scoring list, for someone that’s not much of a scorer–as you guys have deemed me–it is pretty cool.”
In passing Pippen, James also moves into 27th all-time in assists, with Jerry West next in his sights.
