The Overlord of the Gonjaland Traditional area and his people in the Northern Region have enskined Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Julius Debrah, as the Maapuoto Wura.

The colourful ceremony was held at the Yagbon-Wura’s palace in Damongo, the traditional capital of Gonjaland where President John Dramani Mahama hails from.
It will be recalled that Julius Debrah supported the Aliu Mahama Foundation to during the second anniversary celebration of the late Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama.
Maapuoto Wura Julius Debrah is on a five day working visit to the Northern Region ahead of the fourth National Sanitation Day exercise to be hosted by the Northern Region on Saturday February 7.
During his visits, he also paid a courtesy calls on the overlord of Mamprugu Traditional Area, the Regent of Dagbon, the Bimbila Regent, the Wungu chief, Buipe Wura and the Bole Wura.
Maapuoto Wura Julius Debrah promised all the chiefs two boreholes in their various coand two modern toilet facilities at locations of their choice.
He implored the traditional authorities to fight against open defecation and all forms of unhygienic practices.
According to him, government will continuously tap into the wisdom of traditional rulers to build a better Ghana.
