Black Stars players swept almost all the prestigious awards of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, with winger Christian Atsu winning the best player of the tournament award.
Atsu, who struck twice at the tournament, both against Guinea had a fine tournament and capped it off with an impressive performance in the final, where he was Ghana’s biggest threat going forward.
Apart from the Orange player of the competition award, Atsu also won the Nissan Goal of the tournament for his his second strike in Ghana’s 3-0 win over Guinea during the quarter final when he cut in from the right and curled a stunner over the keeper.
Dede Ayew, who scored 3 goals at the tournament, won the award for top scorer and Cambridge United’s Kwesi Appiah was adjudged the overall Fair Player of the tournament.
The Black Stars were denied a fifth AFCON triumph by the Ivory Coast, losing 9-8 on penalties after the game ended goalless.
Ivorian Keeper Boubacar Barry scored the winning kick following his save from Ghana’s Razak Brimah.
The win was the Ivorians second at the tournament and consigned the Black Stars to a fifth AFCON final loss in nine attempts.
