Sony Pictures is offering more ways for viewers to stream the The Interview, following its lucrative online roll out of the embattled film.
The studio announced on Wednesday that it has reached deals with companies, including Comcast, Time Warner, AT&T and Verizon, to make The Interview available to rent through various video-on-demand services starting Wednesday. Sony did not immediately respond toMashable‘s request for comment.
The comedy was first released in a limited theatrical run on Christmas Day, as well as online on Christmas Eve via digital platforms such as YouTube, Google Play, Xbox Video and Sony-launched SeeTheInterview.com. Apple also agreed to add the film on iTunes earlier this week.
With Wednesday’s announcement, Sony is adding the following services to the list: Bright House Networks, Comcast, Cox Communications, Time Warner, Cablevision, Charter Communications, AT&T U-verse TV, Verizon FiOS, Direct TV and Walmart’s Vudu.
The company also said it will offer The Interview on its Playstation Network starting Thursday, and expand the film’s theatrical release to 580 independent theaters by Friday, according toReuters.
Sony pulled The Interview from theatrical release earlier this month, following vague threats from anonymous hackers responsible for a massive cyberattack against the company. But after high-profile critics, including U.S. President Barack Obama and various Hollywood celebrities, criticized the move, Sony backtracked.
In the days since its online debut, the movie has earned $15 million, and was rented or purchased more than 2 million times.
