The National Media Commission (NMC) has emphasized the need for political parties to closely monitor the media.
The Chairman of the Commission, Kabral Blay Amihere made these remarks at a press briefing on an interim report on Media Monitoring.
The report focused on political coverage, agenda setting and the use of hate speech.
The Commission believes constant monitoring of the media landscape will inure to the benefit of the various political parties as they seek to project their ideas to the electorate.
The monitoring activities were between January 12 to 23, 2015.
Presenting the report, Chairman of the commission appealed to political parties to show interest in events that unfold in the media landscape, saying “I think political parties should be involved in this exercise because it can influence the way they conduct their media strategies and programmes to get coverage.”
“If I was in politics, I will be interested because it tells you how much coverage the papers are giving you,” he added
