Following Citi News’ earlier report that the much publicized emergency number of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) was inactive, the emergency number has been restored and is now operational.

The head of Public Relations at the GNFS, Elis Robinson Oko told Citi News, only Vodafone customers or clients can call the emergency number for now.
“Now, people can call 192 on the Vodafone. When you call now, it goes through,” he said.
He indicated that they are working to get the other networks on board saying, “previously, we had the other networks but I think there was a little problem so we are still negotiating with them.”
Robinson Oko pointed out that the other networks are private companies and coming on board will come at a cost “so we have to negotiate with them.”
There have been more than a dozen fire incidents in the last two weeks across the country, destroying properties and killing people in some instances.
Last week, the Tema Medical stores caught fire destroying medical equipment and supplies worth over GHC 200 million.
Fire also gutted the Kokompe market last Saturday night resulting in the death of one individual. A Melcom warehouse are industrial area in Accra also caught fire a about two weeks ago.
So far, about five domestic fires have been reported since the beginning of January this year.
