The National Coordinator of the National Disaster Management (NADMO), Kofi Portuphy, has unseated the incumbent National Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Kwabena Adjei.
He won the position by 2,457 votes, representing about 75% of the total votes cast, compared to the 316 by the incumbent Dr. Kwabena Adjei.
The third aspirant Dan Abodakpi, polled 610 votes.
The NDC chairmanship race was one of the most keenly contested national executive positions in the NDC.
Mr Porturphy contested the position together with Dan Abodakpi, a former Minister of State and Dr. Kwabena Adjei who has held the position for two terms.
The fourth aspirant, Alhaji Huudu Yahaya who is the incumbent Vice Chairman of the party withdrew from the race a few minutes to the commencement of the elections on Saturday in Kumasi.

Over 300 delegates earlier declared their support for him claiming he would steer the affairs of the party better than the incumbent.
The party’s incumbent National Chairman, Dr. Adjei in an earlier interview with Citi News was confident of a resounding victory, stressing that his opponent’s strategies will not work.
