National Service Personnel across the country have given the National Service Secretariat (NSS) a one-week ultimatum to pay them their three months allowance or face their wrath.
The personnel say for the past three months, the NSS has failed to explain the delay in payment of their allowances.
[contextly_sidebar id=”0kHdDEjpAa5vWnB6Y5H1aMCvGOPGa03t”]The NSS has been going through some reforms following the discovery of massive corruption among top managers at the Secretariat.
Currently, the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NSS, Alhaji Alhassan Mohammed Imoro is facing trial in court for stealing GH 86.9 million cedis belonging to the state.
Speaking to Citi News, Interim Chairman of the National Service Personnel Association of Ghana Alex Kojo Biney said the reforms should not affect the payment of their allowances.
“The general public is not aware of what the service personnel are going through; even our own parents are not aware what we are going through. When we even tell them that we have not been paid for three months now they think it’s one of those things you do when you are in school deceiving them. We want the public to be aware of what is going on; the injustice against the national service personnel,” he said.
The National Service Secretariat (NSS) has announced changes in the mode of payment of allowances for National Service Personnel.
According to the acting Executive Director of the NSS, Dr. Kpessah Whyte, “from January 2015 payment of allowances to all national service personnel at post shall be effected through the biometric E-zwich platform.”
But Kojo Biney insisted that “We are just giving them one week ultimatum if nothing is done we will advise ourselves accordingly. I’ve contacted members the service personnel across the country, we have representatives in all the regions and then they are in touch of the members in the region so if nothing is done about this issue we will just gather ourselves and we will know what to do.”
