The Board Chairman of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Ambassador Lee Ocran has disclosed that a government institution owes the authority about of GHc700 million.
Though he failed to mention the name of the institution, he said they will soon resort to the court to retrieve their money.

Ambassador Lee Ocran who was speaking in an interview on Accra based radio Gold, observed that nonpayment of debt by public institutions has doubled the woes of VRA.
“This is why VRA has a problem. VRA used to be the most liquid institution in Ghana,” he opined.
“There are private institutions, mines that owe VRA, they are not paying. There is one owned by a quasi-state institution; they owe us one million barrels of oil. I told their managing director I will take my oil. VRA is cashtrapped. VALCO owes us, Sonun Asogli owes, when you chase them they say ECG has not paid us so we can’t pay you.”
On how to retrieve such monies, Ambassador Ocran said apart from dragging them to court he assured that “we are trying to do inter agency accounting to sought out this thing.”
Ambassador Lee Ocran who is vying for the Vice Chairmanship slot in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was optimistic of winning the position citing his in-depth knowledge and previous experience in the party.
