The Member of Parliament for Sefwi Bodi, Sampson Ahi has called on Ghanaian farmers to ignore calls to boycott the 2014 National Farmers day at Sefwi-Wiawso in the Western region.
According to him, claims of neglect being made by those behind the call have no basis since government has invested heavily in the sector.
A group calling itself Concerned Farmers Association is asking farmers to boycott the event due to what they say is government’s attempt to completely neglect the Agricultural sector.

“It is strange that a group of farmers who are politicians will engage in such an act because we know that in the history of Ghana, this is the first time Government is paying close to 76 percent NET F holdings to cocoa farmers so if government is making such an investment and you ask them to boycott it, then you can only read political meanings into it.”
The 2014 National Farmers’ Day celebration is under the theme: “Eat what you grow.”
The National Farmers Day celebration was established by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to reward hard working farmers.
On the first Friday of every December, farmers who excel in their respective fields are awarded with certificates and other prizes.
