Former Commissioner for Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Justice Emile Short has expressed concerns over the sinking credibility of Commission in Ghana and internationally.
The former CHRAJ boss was referring to series of incidents leading to the establishment of a prima facie case against current CHRAJ boss Lauretta Vivian Lamptey.
After weeks of investigations, the Chief Justice(CJ) announced that a prima facie case has been established against Lauretta Lamptey to justify full investigations into the complaints against her.
[contextly_sidebar id=”qbASC0pljp8xPw78g4KSAEz0ucYAv3EX”]A 24-page report containing the decision notes the petition grounded on “… acts of serious misconduct, inappropriate exercise of office, serious misjudgement, breaches of laws and public trust” together with its accompanying exhibits as well as a response provided by Ms. Lauretta Vivian Lamptey have been carefully examined by the Chief Justice acting in her administrative capacity as she is constitutionally mandated.
Speaking to Citi News, Justice Short said the recent revelations regarding lauretta have dented the Commission’s image.
“The revelations which have come out in the media, not only here but at the international level, have actually dented the image and credibility of CHRAJ and there is no doubt about that so we just have to wait and see what the outcome of the investigation is. It is unfortunate that this matter has reached this stage.”
Meanwhile Chairman of Parliament’s Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee, and Member of Parliament (MP) for Bekwai, Joe Osei Owusu is asking President Mahama to as a matter of urgency suspend the CHRAJ Boss.
Speaking to Citi News, Joe Osei Owusu argued that, to ensure fairness and credibility of the investigations the President needs to act by compelling Madam Lauretta to step aside until investigations into the matter are completed.
“In order to abase that embarrassment and in my view, the image of the CHRAJ Commissioner, I think she should be asked to step aside so investigations continue.”
“…she is a chairperson of the Commission. The Commission’s work should not come to a halt only because she is being investigated. That is why I am saying that she should step aside and allow the Commission to continue to do its work while investigation continue.”
