The confident Obuasi chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abdul Ishaq Farrakhan woefully lost the party’s General Secretary race to incumbent, Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia who was billed to contest the position unopposed suddenly had a challenger in the person of Farrakhan, who was of the firm belief that party delegates were “fed up” with the incumbent.
[contextly_sidebar id=”ElNkn1rp9ynQmKAXvDqWe98qV0n6pgmo”]He claimed that Asiedu Nketia has failed to stand up for the interest of party members at the local level who contributed largely to the NDC’s presidential victories in 2008 and 2012.
Farrakhan in earlier interviews with Citi News was certain of wining the contest because according to him, he had been assured by party delegates’ of victory.
Asiedu Nketia also told Citi News, he was unperturbed and unmoved by Farrakhan’s various allegations and his desire to run against him.
He remarked that he has never contested a position in his political career unchallenged, adding that, he has been victorious in all his attempts.
In the just ended 8th national delegates congress of the NDC, the incumbent, Johnson Asiedu Nketia won by 2,385 while Farrakhan only managed to poll 606.
