The gospel reggae kingpin Akesse Brempong sent the audience into a praise jamboree at the recent Bass Awards 2014 event. Although an unfamiliar terrain for the young gospel artiste, Akesse managed to pull a stellar performance at event. Starting off with a medley of rather familiar songs like ‘By the Rivers of Babylon’, ‘No night in Zion’ and ‘let the words of my mouth’, Akesse took the audience captive with his soulful vocal delivery and climaxed his performance with his hit song ‘Crazy Love’.
Backed by an eleven member band called the Tribe of Judah, Akesse Brempong was the only artiste who performed with a live band on the night thereby attracting a lot of commentary from many reggae and dancehall enthusiasts.
The night also saw Akesse Brempong sweeping the much coveted Best Alternative Reggae/Dancehall song of the year (Gospel) award with his song ‘Crazy Love’. This brings the tally of his awards to two for his first album titled Songs in the Night released in April this year.
In an interview with 30 minitz Live, Akesse expressed a lot of optimism in the future of gospel reggae music in Ghana. He said ‘We are yet to see a big gospel reggae revolution in our land, God is raising an army of soldiers of the cross for our nation’. Akesse also hinted that he is currently working on a new gospel reggae album to be released soon.
