The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested five persons for illegal possession of firearms in Bimbilla.
According to police, the suspects were arrested in a joint routine swoop with other security agencies in the region.
The Bimbilla Township has been under curfew following disputes that led to the death of the overlord of the area, Naa Dasana Abdulai.

Speaking in an interview with Citi News, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Northern Regional Police Command, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh explained that the five suspects are currently in police custody assisting in the ongoing investigation.
“In all we have five suspects who are presently in our custody. Two of them are in Tamale and the other three are assisting the police in their investigations. We also have one shot machine gun that was retrieved. One double barrel gun and four single barrel gun and one unserviceable cop gun. We also succeeded in retrieving 782 AK-47 bullets, also 43G3 bullets and then six AA cartridges,” he said.
ASP Tetteh assured that the “suspects are going to assist us investigate and after our investigations and if there is a concrete evidence against them what we will do is we will quickly arraign them before court.”
