Some well-built supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Western Region, manhandled Citi FM’s Western Regional correspondent, Obrempong Yaw Ampofo while he was monitoring the party’s congress at Bogoso on Wednesday.
[contextly_sidebar id=”XrAjbYETPe14YC02ADvdk3hfo92algTW”]He reported that while filming the reaction of the incumbent Chairman; Nana Toku who had just lost the position to his rival, Michael Aidoo, the party supporters fumed and launched an attack on him.
“The situation quickly attracted the attention of onlookers,” he said.
Obrempong explained that because he had exclusive pictures and videos of the Chairman who collapsed after losing, his supporters charged at him and shoved him around.
The attack, he said was led by Charles Kojo Fordjour, the newly elected Deputy Western Regional Secretary of the NDC.
He said Fordjour forcefully grabbed his microphone and camera and smashed them on the ground, adding that, another NDC supporter grabbed his recorder and also smashed it.
“As if that wasn’t enough, some angry supporters chased me from the congress arena with broken bottles…it was serious, not even the Police were able to calm them down,” he lamented.
“It would have been a fatal incident but the Deputy National NDC Propaganda Secretary, Solomon Nkansah and some policemen around came to my rescue.”
“My camera and microphone were brought back to me dirty, by a Police Crime Officer who calmed the NDC supporters down,” he said, adding that his recorder has been missing since then.
According to him, the Police had a tough time controlling the NDC men who were bent on assaulting him at all cost.
Obrempong has since officially reported the matter to the Police.
