The sacked Ashanti Regional editor of the Daily Graphic, Daniel Kenu, has accused the Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Ken Ashigbey, of influencing the decision to sack him.
“It’s the MD who just wants me out. He thinks I’ve embarrassed him. I don’t know what I’ve done against this man,” he lamented.
[contextly_sidebar id=”9aJodJ4gccIelWW8IvD8fL2phWSZlo2b”]“I don’t know which crime I have committed, I’ve not erred against anybody, I’ve not broken any company law,” he insisted.
Daniel Kenu went to court with the full backing of Graphic when he was assaulted by a group of men, allegedly led by the elder brother of Asamoah Gyan.
He later surprised his bosses by withdrawing the case citing health and family issues, although the MD, Ken Ashigbey had vowed to pursue the case to its logical conclusion.
Graphic on Wednesday November 19, dismissed Daniel Kenu accusing him of “gross misconduct and disloyalty under section 22(a) of collective bargaining agreement” between him and the company.
Speaking to Citi News Kenu questioned the rationale behind his dismissal saying he has explained to his employers why he took the decision.
“What have I done to constitute that? I have been beaten so am I being punished for being beaten? I was going through troubles my family was under stress. My mum is ill, my uncle has just died, we’ve buried him. What else do you want me to do? Should I kill myself? If you are angry at the Gyan brothers must I be punished for their sins?” he fumed.
He also refuted claims that he was bribed by the Gyan brothers to withdraw the case from court.
“Where was the money given to me? And it’s so funny people are still alleging that I am in Dubai now, I am enjoying with my family. People are saying I’ve been given three bedroom house. Some say Pontiac Vibe… If there is truth in all these allegations, there should be one or two figures running around, look three-bedroom house and money for receiving a slap? Then everybody will be going for a slap,” he stated.
