The defeated Western Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nana Toku has rejected reports that he collapsed after he lost the position at the party’s delegates’ congress on Wednesday.
Nana Toku was captured on camera as he passed out after recounting of the votes proved he had indeed lost to his rival, Michael Aidoo, after 8 years as Chairman.
[contextly_sidebar id=”YEtVyUW2jaSIamEeOIbCm7sJZGnhJqwf”]Speaking to Citi News he said “his fall” was misunderstood by onlookers.
“This news has been all over the place, it is not true that I collapsed. Seriously when I called for a recount and I went to where the ballot papers are with my colleague who contested me, all the reporters trooped in close to us. They started pushing the people behind so the policeman behind me was pushed, they pushed the policeman so he fell on me and I got up a little bit so he held me to stand because the people at our back were pushing us.”
“That doesn’t mean that I fell or collapsed, I did not collapse!” he insisted.
He further explained that “when they finished the second count, even I did not let them finish, I stopped the recounting, I congratulated my brother I hugged him and I walked from that place to my hotel, it was 200 meters away. I walked with all the supporters I didn’t want to join the car.”
Nana Toku also apologized to Citi Fm’s Western Regional Correspondent, Obrempong Yaw Ampofo who was manhandled by some of his supporters.
