A group of Women’s Rights Activist are planning on picketing at the entrance of Ghana’s Parliament to compel the Speaker of Parliament to sanction the Member of Parliament (NP) for Daboya Mankarigu, Nelson Abudu.
The MP proposed during a debate on the Intestate Succession Bill in Parliament that, adulterous women should be hanged or stoned to death.
His suggestion has attracted public outrage, with some calling for his resignation.

Kathleen said the group will protest until the MP is sanctioned.
“……when a Member of Parliament stands up boldly in front of other lesgilators including women and just opens his mouth and says excuse me to say rubbish, I expect the Speaker of Parliament to sanction the gentleman for saying the things that he said,” she stated.
Meanwhile, a former Minister of Women and Children’s Affairs, Hajia Alima Mahama has described as offensive, suggestions by the Daboya MP.
“I don’t think he is even aware of what is happening in Ghana. He is in coma, he is in a deep sleep. He should wake up.Ghanaian women are progressing and there is no turning back so I’m surprised that supposedly an hounrable man can get up on the floor of Parliament and make such a statement…Things have changed in Ghana and he should be told clearly…”
Another Women’s Rights Activist, Mercy Adjabeng said the MP’s proposal contravenes the Constitution.
Mrs. Adjabeng emphasized the need for the “leadership of Parliament to bring the attention of the lawmaker to the fact that his proposals are in contravention with the constitution”
“The government must react to the statement by assuaging the fears of women…,” she added.
