A former Commissioner of Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Emile Short has said the Chief Justice, Georgina Wood should be given ample time to take a decision on the current CHRAJ Boss, Lauretta Lamptey.
In October, the Chief Justice, Georgina Theodora Wood was asked by President Mahama, to investigate and initiate processes if necessary, for the removal of Lauretta Lamptey as CHRAJ Commissioner.
[contextly_sidebar id=”D302gOI35voVwaHUA4knaP3aesUl0ccK”]Prior to the President’s directive, two petitions were submitted to the Presidency for Ms Lamptey to be impeached following revelations that she spent $180,000 on rent
The petitions were submitted by the Progressive Nationalist Forum (PNF) and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Frank Annor Dompreh.
The Chief Justice’s seeming delay on the matter has been questioned by various stakeholders but speaking on Eyewitness News, Emile Short requested for more time on behalf of the Chief Justice, saying; “the Chief Justice obviously is in charge of this process and I think that we should all leave her to decide what is best. If for example a stipulated time is given for her to respond and she has not responded, I think she knows the appropriate step.”
According to him, the Chief Justice is currently “investigating the matter to dispose of it as expeditiously as possible.”
He was however quick to add that “it is important that the matter is decided as quickly as possible because it is not in the interest of CHRAJ nor is it in the interest of government for a matter like this to keep coming up time and time again.”
