About 2,000 doctors are likely to resign from the Ghana Health Service if government fails to take measures to address their grievances, the Deputy Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Justice Yankson has revealed.
According Dr. Yankah, the decision has become necessary due to government’s refusal to heed to the concerns of the doctors.
The GMA has also given government an ultimatum till June 2015 to spell out their conditions of service or face their wrath.

Dr Yankah said government should take immediate steps to address their grievances if it is still interested in working with various doctors in the country.
The GMA has been battling with poor conditions of service for sometime now.
The General Telegraph news paper, in May, indicated that junior doctors (house officers) of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region, had not been paid over the past eight months.
The GMA as a means of resolving the impasse recently joined the 12 labour groups protesting the non payment of their outstanding claims.
Speaking to Citi News earlier in October, Dr. Justice Yankson said “Even with the tier one funds, there are issues there and government has refused to make the payments. And now there are issues with tier two. Are you saying that we should go home…?Is that the kind of system we want to build for ourselves. Others work every four years, they are given huge sums of money others work during weekends etc and the will go home with nothing. What kind of animal situation are we talking about? The pensions’ act is backed by law.”
