The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Matthew Opoku Prempeh has described President John Mahama’s travels abroad as wasteful.
He described Mahama’s style of leadership a very “ aloof, stand-away, don’t touch me, hands off”one.
Speaking to Citi FM’s Richard Dela Sky in an exclusive interview, the MP said the president’s foreign travels do not yield positive results for the country.
“Certainly when you combine all his travels since 2009 as a Vice President, acting on behalf of his Presidency, President Mills to now, we don’t seem to see the benefit that accrued to the nation and especially now that we sorely need a leader to unite us, to sharpen our sense of purpose and focus, to address threatening issues in the sub region, we don’t hear from our President within this country and we see his advisers, his handlers demeaning his office…,”he stated.

Certainly he is a President who has stayed outside the shores of this country for a longest time possible.. That is my worry and it finds itself expressions in all spheres of our lives,”he added.
Opoku Prempeh noted that even though the government has been facing a number of challenges including the non-payment of tier two pension funds among others, the president continues to travel.
“In the last three months, When you look at the raging battles with the tier two pension funds which we have been speaking about for almost a year, the utmost silence of the trade union leadership, the rampant strikes that started sometime last year, it is not true that this government has only existed for 2 years. It is a government that has existed for six years.”
Many Ghanaians have criticised the Mahama-led administration for its failure to improve the lives of the citizenry and rising spate of corruption in the country.
76% of Ghanaians blame government for failing to improve their living standards, according to the Afrobarometer, round 6 results.
The report sampled the views of 2,400 citizens about their economic and living conditions.
The respondents said government is performing very badly or fairly badly in improving the living standards of the poor.
