Residents of Kumbugu in the Northern Region on Monday took to the streets to demonstrate over the bad road networks in the district.
The residents say the bad nature of the roads is negatively impacting their lives and businesses.
“We are demonstrating to show our displeasure towards the bad nature of the roads. We want the government to come out and explicitly let us know whether funds have committed to the contract or not, if yes, then government should sit up and force the contractor work on it.”

We don’t know who is NPP or NDC, we are coming out as people of the district to demonstrate against the bad nature of the roads,” Imoro Ishahaku Jamal, one of the demonstrators explained.
According to the residents, work on the Tamale-Kumbungu road has stalled even though it has been awarded to a construction company.
“Imoro Ishahaku Jamal called on the government to explain the cause of the delays. It has been awarded to a contractor, this is what we can’t understand, he comes three times and goes away. The road is left undone, we are suffering. He doesn’t stay here, he doesn’t know the ordeal we are going through, making lorry fares inflate. Any lorry can charge any amount that pleases them. We cannot continue that suffering.”
Residents in a number of towns across Ghana have also demonstrated against the deplorable state of roads in their communities.
In July 2014, residents of Manhean in the Ga West Municipal Assembly in the Amasaman Constituency in the Greater Accra Region demonstrated over their roads.
