As Android continues its dominance of the OS market in Europe’s big five countries, with a 73.9 percent share in the third quarter, iOS has gained market share across all major European markets thanks to the launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6+, according to data from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech.
Apple iOS had a 15.4 percent share, ahead of Windows with 9.2 percent. In the UK, where the new iPhones started shipping on 19 September, Apple’s share grew to 31 percent that month, up by 1.7 percentage points on September 2013.
Across the major European markets, where the new iPhone models were made available between the 19 and 26 September, initial sales of the new iPhone models have overwhelmingly been from existing iPhone owners (87%).
The market researcher expects Apple to start attracting customers from competitor brands after offers and promotions on the new iPhones show their effect.
