Workers of Dangote Cement Factory in Tema have laid down their tools to register their displeasure over their poor conditions of service.
According to them, management of the company has failed to implement their collective bargaining agreement of increasing their salary by a certain percentage annually.
They also pointed out that they lack the basic equipment to make them work efficiently.
[contextly_sidebar id=”4OddzufvXLBPVceyb4CQWqMpuqdXUq1Y”]Citi News Tema Correspondent, Elvis Washington reported that the workers “claim they are not given the right salaries for the right jobs, they are not given good working gears to work with and most of them are in red arm bands and they have put down their tools until management address their grievances.”
Some of the workers who spoke to Citi News explained that as per their working conditions, management was supposed to increase their salary by 10% and also provide them with working gears.
According to them all efforts to have the problems resolved have proved futile, hence their decision to strike.
They are however threatening to continue with the strike until their grievances are met.
Meanwhile, management of Dangote are currently in a crunch meeting to deliberate over the issue.
