Some traders at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, have expressed their displeasure at the decision by government to pull down a footbridge to make way for the completion of the overpass.
The old footbridge is expected to be fitted with explosives and brought down at 15:00 today, hence the decision by the contractors to sack the traders from area.
Some of the traders are unhappy about the decision.
One of them who spoke to Citi News said “they have given us an ultimatum which ends tomorrow. If they move us from here, it will be a source of great sorrow. They are only teaching us to steal and practice other vices”
Another trader said “the government should have given us a place to do our business before collapsing the bridge”
Also, some pedestrians say the destruction of the footbridge will inconvenience them.
“ I think it will be an inconvenience because although there was a route here but I realized it had been blocked and thus poses a danger to the pedestrian”
Residents in the area say they have received notification from the Department and are willing to relocate.
