The 2012 presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo Addo has blamed the current economic crisis facing the country on corruption and mismanagement of the nation’s resources.
He said Ghana is endowed with enough resources to propel development but “our leaders have spent all the monies.”
The country has been hit with a number of corruption scandals within the past few months.
Notable among them is the Sports Ministry’s spending on Ghana’s participation at the 2014 World Cup Tournament in Brazil, revelations at the Judgement Debts Commission, misappropriation of funds at GYEEDA as well as findings by the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament in the three regions of the north where some districts have reportedly misused the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF).

Speaking to NPP delegates in the Ashanti Region ahead of the party’s upcoming October 18 Congress, Nana Akufo-Addo stated that an NPP government under his leadership will fight corruption and invest in economic growth to create jobs for the youth.
“Because of corruption there is no money for development. God did not create us to be poor, Ghana has enough resources to propel development. We in the NPP have the men and women to change the fortunes of this country. That is why am appealing to you; support me in my bid to lead this party to government to make this country a prosperous nation and also to create more jobs for the youth,” he said.
He also added that; “under my leadership we will also ensure economic development to strengthen the cedi.”
