The Regional Police Command in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region has arrested over 200 drivers on the Kumasi-Accra highway for various offenses.
Reports say that a team led by the Regional Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye made the arrests in a major road transport check on the highway on Monday.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command ASP Muhammed Tanko, some of the drivers were arrested for driving with flip-flops, drunk-driving and driving without seat belts.
“This morning the regional command lead by the commander DCOP Kofi Boakye embarked upon an exercise to check drivers on the road and help reduce road accidents. It is our conviction that most accidents are as a result of negligence of drivers so we needed to embark upon the exercise to be sure they are doing the right thing,” ASP Tanko stated.

“We also check those who were driving in the chale wate and other road traffic offenses. So we’ve arrested a number of drivers and we are processing them for necessary action. There are others like those who were not wearing seatbelts and other minor offences we just warn them and allow them to go and others we made them to wear their seatbelts then we allow them to go,” he added.
