One person is reported dead with many others injured after river Todze in the Agortime-Ziope District capital overflowed its banks in the Volta region on Thursday.
A heavy downpour which started around 7 pm lasted for about seven hours and is believed to have caused the river to push through its banks and destroyed property after entering the town.
A family of three who were sleeping in their mud house were carried along by the strong current, injuring two and killing one.
The bridge at the main entrance of the township from Ho has been completely submerged in the floods, creating inconvenience to motorists.
The only clinic in the area has also been damaged.
The Volta regional coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Simon Miles Bakar has visited the area to assess the situation.
He told Citi News Volta Regional correspondent King Norbert Akpablie that, ‘’I think the impact of the rain is excessive and so far 93 houses have been submerged with three quarter of kpetoe under water’’
Residents who were surprised say they have never experienced such calamity of this sort.
