The Member of Parliament (MP) for Essikado-Ketan and second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joe Ghartey, has pledged to support the campaign of two-time presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo.
Ghartey was contesting to lead the NPP in 2016 as presidential candidate but withdrew from the race despite surviving the Super Delegates’ Congress.
[contextly_sidebar id=”WzfdnDo8UJTU29eldSmjVJRxgqu2ZY2X”]Speaking at Akufo-Addo’s thank you tour in the Central Region, Joe Ghartey announced his support saying, “I know I am not contesting again so everyone should know the candidate I will be joining but because I have not formally spoken, people are confused and are speculating…Nana Addo trained me as a lawyer and today I am here so I took a phone and called Nana Addo and told him I am for him and everything is in place.”
Another contestant, Kofi Osei Ameyaw also dropped out of the race and joined the campaign team of Nana Addo.
Nana Akufo-Addo accepted Ameyaw’s support noting that, it will strengthen his campaign to wrestle power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Joe Ghartey and Osei Ameyaw’s withdrawal leaves only three candidates who will be competing for the presidential ticket at the NPP’s October 18 congress.
The three candidates are; Nana Akufo-Addo, Francis Addai Nimo, who is the MP for Asante Mampong, and former Trades Minister, Alan Kyerematen.
