Some Municipal and District Assemblies in the Eastern Region will miss deadline for the street naming exercise ordered by the president.
President John Dramani Mahama directed the 170 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to name all the streets and address every property under their jurisdictions within 18 months or risk losing their positions.
The ultimatum elapses at the end of September 2014.

But Citi News checks revealed that West Akim is part of the five Municipalities in the region that have not completed the exercise and clearly will miss the deadline.
When Citi News contacted the West Akim Municipal Development and Planning officer, Mr Eric Adomako, said they could not meet the deadline because of financial challenges.
He said, “…When the president made that pronouncement we didn’t have money. There was no money in the system for us to even kick-start any programme until the World Bank came in.”
Although Mr Adomako agreed that clearly, the Municipality was behind schedule he indicated that they have been able to chalk some successes in the exercise due to the support from World Bank.
“We’ve not completed but we’ve done the layout we have the satellite imageries. So we are doing the grant rooting where we do digitization of the areas and parcels of land,” he said.
However, the Upper West Akim District with Adeiso as its capital and shares border with the West Akim Municipality, has completed the exercise ahead of schedule.
Meanwhile, all the districts in the Volta have completed the project.
