A former Commissioner of the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Emile Short, has stated that the official bungalow of the Commissioner was in a good condition when he moved out.
He disclosed that if there was the need for any work to be carried on the facility, it would have been just painting.
The current Commissioner of CHRAJ, Ms Lauretta Lamptey, has been accused of spending $180,000 on rent at the AU Village at the expense of the State.

Mrs Lamptey explained on the Citi Breakfast show that she was willing to live in her uncompleted official bungalow but said that it was unsafe to live in the building because it was over 10 years old and had some wiring problems; therefore, a renovation exercise became necessary.
But speaking on Eyewitness News on Tuesday, Justice Emile Short insisted that the bungalow was in good condition before he left.
“When I left the building, it was in quite good condition. When I entered the building in 1999 it was a newly constructed building. I left in 2010. If there were any renovations to be done that would have have been painting and things like that,” he added.
He added that “I find the amount exorbitant and unusual.”
Three years down the line, renovation work on the building is yet to be completed.
Meanwhile, the Commission has been criticized for failing to address the growing number of corruption cases that have so far been revealed.
A Financial Analyst, Sydney Casely-Hayford on Citi FM’s the Big Issue on Saturday called for the dismissal of the CHRAJ boss describing her as incompetent.
