Residents in the West Akim Municipality of the Eastern Region have expressed fear and worry over the surge in cholera cases recorded in the Municipality.
About 30 cases have so far been recorded with one confirmed death since the first case was recorded barely three weeks ago.
Speaking to Citi News, West Akim Municipal Health Director, Abdul Aziz Abdulai said the municipality is likely to record more cases if adequate measures are not put in place.
He said the directorate has made a number of arrangements to treat cholera cases.
“Currently we are housing the cholera victims in an uncompleted maternity block within the hospital. We had to do this makeshift arrangement because we don’t want to risk the health of the other patients who are in the wards,” he indicated.
The Municipal Chief Executive of West Akim, George Mensah Akpalu who also spoke with Citi News disclosed that the Assembly Emergency Health Committee has created a sanitation taskforce to check food vendors and their source of preparation.
He also called on Zoomlion to be proactive in their services of collecting waste.
