A former Northern Regional Minister during the Kufuor administration has stated that the incessant deepening crisis within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is a recipe for their electoral defeat in 2016.
Prince Imoro Andani has therefore called for unconditional unity in the NPP to brighten their chances of winning next the general elections.
According to Prince Imoro Andani, majority of Ghanaians who are yearning for the NPP’s return to power to salvage the nation’s economy, will curse the party if it loses the 2016 elections.
“I think that what is happening is most unfortunate, most unexpected and highly disappointing: disappointing because this is the time Ghanaians are waiting to see the NPP in power because to get things right and to get the economy on its foot and to get things going.”
Prince Imoro Andani was, in a Citi News interview, commenting on the ceaseless power struggle between some members of the opposing factions within the NPP.
He recalled that such infighting caused the party’s electoral defeats in the last two general elections.
“We lost the last two elections simply because of internal wrangling, we have nobody to blame for our losses.’
Prince Imoro Andani challenged the current national headship of the NPP to lead the party to victory in 2016.
“For now, NDC is doing everything in our favour for Ghanaians to want NPP to come back, the question is, what is NPP doing as a party?”
He called for an immediate ceasefire saying, “I think for now the most important thing is that the various factions should lay down their arms and let’s put our focus where it should belong: the focus is to get the party into power and I think that actions and reactions are not helpful at the moment, we are simply losing focus.”
It will be recalled that some angry NPP supporters unleashed guerrilla attacks on some party members at the headquarters in an attempt to express their dissatisfaction about the leadership style of the Paul Afoko led administration.
The dastardly act has since negatively branded the NPP in media circles with communicators of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) capitalizing on it to maximize their electoral fortunes in 2016.
