All 45 illegal miners arrested in Bole in the Northern Region have been remanded in police custody.
They are to re-appear in court on September 4, 2014.
They were arraigned before a Tamale Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Senyo Amedehe on Thursday August 21, 2014.
Forty-two of them have been identified as ECOWAS nationals from Guinea, Burkina Faso and Mali.
They were rounded up by authorities of the Northern Regional Command of the Ghana Immigration Service.
The immigration officers who carried the operation retrieved mining equipment, motorbikes and an undisclosed amount from them.
Assistant Director of Immigration in charge of the Northern Region, Eric Afari told Citi News that stringent measures have been put in place at some 13 identified unapproved routes in the Northern Region to curtail the influx of foreign nationals into the country.
The Bole district which is bordering Cote d’Ivoire has gained notoriety for illegal mining activities in the Northern Region.
