The ministry of interior says it will arrest and prosecute all unregistered locksmiths in the country.
According to the Minister of Interior, Mr. Kwesi Ahwoi most of the locksmiths in the country are unregistered and there is evidence available that unregistered locksmiths aid armed robbers by making keys for them.
He disclosed this when he took his turn at the Meet the Press series at the Ministry of Information.
He said, “locksmiths are all over the country cutting keys. They cut keys for good and bad purposes. When they come to your house and they are holding a bunch of keys, it means they went to cut these keys from those who are supposed to be legally registered to cut keys. Unfortunately, many of the key cutters have no legal permit to cut the keys.”
He explained the process involved in securing official approval to run as a business in Ghana.
He said, “by law, they should secure permits from the Ministry of Interior, go through the normal due process by the police and the BNI. Many of these agencies do not have such permits and yet, they are operating.”
