Repair works have began on the Bailey bridge on the River Akora at Agona Swedru which collapsed in February this year.
The blasting of rocks in the area caused parts of the bridge to collapse, thereby impeding the movement of motorists and pedestrians in the locality.
Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Agona West, Samuel Oppong revealed to Citi News that economic activity in the area has declined due to the limited movement as a result of the broken bridge.
“It has brought economic, social and politic hardship to the entire municipality.”
Mr. Oppong further added, “the hope is that by the end of the project, we should not experience flooding in Swedru.”
He also described the collapse of the bridge as “unfortunate” saying it was caused by dredging activities in the River Akora.
The contractor assigned to the project, Aaron Amponsah, also pledged that his outfit will work judiciously to see to it that the bridge is repaired properly.
