The Northern Regional Pharmaceutical Service says it has put measures in place to cater for the shortage of snake serum in some parts of the region.
Doctors in the Walewale and Kpandai Hospitals had earlier complained to the Service about the shortage of the serum, which, according to them, has resulted in many deaths from snake bites in the region.
According to reports, the region’s stock of snake vaccine had dropped below the minimum level two weeks ago.
However, the Deputy Director of the Pharmaceutical Service in the Region, Leslie Vanderpuije, has said efforts had been made to address the shortage and the concerns of the doctors.
He told Citi News that they had made “frantic efforts to re-steady the stock of snake serum” and that he was hopeful it would be done “within the shortest possible time.”
According to Mr. Vanderpuije, they had “been in constant touch” with the Pharmaceutical Services in the capital, Accra, and it is their “expectation that the stock would arrive as early as possible.”
