A Former Minister of Employment, Austin Gamey has downplayed the effect of the Organized Labour’s demonstration.
He said it is impossible for the government to immediately reverse the country’s current economic challenges just because workers have demonstrated nationwide.
Workers across the country embarked on a demonstration on Thursday to pressurize government to take immediate steps to solve the socio-economic problems in the country.
Days before the demonstration, government met with the leadership of Organized Labour to convince them not to embark on the protest but Organized Labour insisted on carrying out the demonstration.
Hundreds of workers left their jobs and turned out for the protest in all regional capitals.
In an interview with Citi News, Mr. Gamey who is also a labour consultant counseled Organized Labour to focus on improving productivity which will bring the prosperity they so desire.
According to him, when such demonstrations are staged, “the engagement at the national level should be intensive.”
Mr. Gamey advised Organized Labour to find how public sector workers can be “productive because we are not productive enough. This may go a long way to raise the status of the nation.”
He called on aggrieved Ghanaians not to consider demonstrations as the quick solution to concerns but rather engage in dialogue with government.
