Ghana’s Azumah Mohammed has made it to the Round of 16 in the Men’s welterweight tournament at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after defeating Joseph Deireragea of the pacific island Nauru.
The 22-year old boxer won in all the three rounds of the contest to advance with scores of 30-27 in each of the rounds.
Azumah will face England’s Scott Fitzgerald after he defeated Ron Bastien of the Caribbean island of St. Lucia in the Round of 32. That fight is on the 28th of July at the SECC Hall 4A.
Another member of the boxing team, Jessie Lartey will be competing in the Men’s Lightweight event on Saturday 26th of July and his first round opponent will be Nassar Mafuru Mafuru of Tanzania.
Abdul Omar will be fighting in the Men’s Flyweight (52kg) against Junior Kauko Raka of Papua New Guinea while David Akankolim will face Kennedy St Pierre of Mauritius in the Men’s Light Heavy Weight (81kg) on the 27th of July.
