Two persons have so far been killed by cholera in the La Dadekotopon Municipality in Accra.

The Assembly is therefore warning residents in the area to take precautionary measures to guard against a cholera epidemic in the area.

According to the assembly, several cases of cholera have been recorded over the past week at the La General Hospital.

The Health Director of the La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly, Dr. Vera Opata told Citi News, two persons had died so far from the disease.

“There was one death in the community, it came very late. The patient was brought in there. Recently there was another death at the La General Hospital.”

Dr. Opata also lamented over the hospital’s inability to provide effective services due to limited facilities.

“It is quite difficult because the infrastructure is not adequate to accommodate all the cases. La General Hospital has a cholera unit but it is full.”

“Cases are coming from all over, some are coming directly from the La communities,” she added.

She also stated that her outfit is sensitizing the residents saying, “we have linked with the municipal assembly, specifically the Environmental Health Unit, to provide education to those who handle the food; to provide some kind of quick education for them to know exactly what to do in cases like this.”
