The Western Regional Minister, Mr. Paul Evans Aidoo has said the black stars who performed poorly at the ongoing FiFA World cup in Brazil did not exhibit a high sense of patriotism to their motherland Ghana.
He said the team lost the spirit in Ghana’s national anthem.
Speaking at the republic day commemoration in Sekondi the minister said the lack of patriotism of today’s youth as exhibited by the Senior National Team makes the efforts of forefathers worthless.
He said the 23 man squad were misled by their $100,000 dollars instead of concentrating on making the 25 million Ghanaian supporters happier with their progress in the competition.
According to him the inability of stars to recite and understand the national anthem led to their poor showing.
“The attitude of the players who demanded their appearance fee in cash was not surprising to me because, during their (black stars) matches, from their faces, none of the players were able to recite the national anthem. Had they been able to recite, they will know the meaning of the words and act accordingly”. Mr. Aidoo said.
He bemoaned the practice where long serving citizens “are not able to receive 3.2 billion old Ghana cedis in the lifetime but are given to players whom others were benched in matches in three weeks”.
