The National Youth Organizer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan will be heading court to secure an injunction against the Electoral Commission’s voter’s registration exercise.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the opening of the rescheduled revision of the voters register from Friday 25th July to August 3, 2014 in spite of the stiff opposition.
Some political parties have argued the need for an audit of the register before embarking on such an exercise.
Speaking to Citi News, Abu Ramadan questioned why the EC would not wait for a verdict from the court.
He said, “the Electoral Commission’s decision to stand administration on the 25th comes to us as a surprise because, First and foremost, the very issue we are raising with the EC at the Supreme Court seems to have been omitted from the requirement at the station. We think the EC should have waited for the court to give a ruling first. If it rules in their favor, then you can proceed. But I have instructed my lawyers to file an injunction on this whole exercise. So that the court would have to listen to our argument before the electoral commission can proceed.”
